MSU opened the 2014 campaign with nine straight victories, including wins over LSU, Auburn and Arkansas, before falling in a close contest to Alabama. The Bulldogs, in early November, were the No. 1 ranked team in the country. And they posted double-digit victories for just the second time in their program’s history. The 2015 Bulldogs aren’t being picked by many to be quite as successful, but with star quarterback Dak Prescott returning, they may surprise a few people. Thursday, the school released an awesome hype video titled “Relentless” to tease the 2015 campaign. Enjoy, MSU fans:

Forty-four youngsters who have been in conflict with the law have been given a second chance to turn their life around and make a positive contribution to society.Over the past two years, the youngsters have been engaged in a reintegration programme being undertaken by the Citizen Security and Justice Programme (CSJP) III in partnership with the Department of Correctional Services (DCS).Following assessment, the participants, who were referred by the DCS, received psychosocial services, vocational skills training in areas such as auto mechanics and general construction, remedial education, counselling and consistent monitoring and follow-up by CSJP case management officers.Ten additional persons are currently engaged in the programme. At a ceremony held at the Ministry of National Security’s Oxford Road offices on Monday (March 19) to celebrate the success of the beneficiaries, Portfolio State Minister, Senator the Hon. Pearnel Charles Jr., commended the CSJP III and its partners for the transformative work.“This is an opportunity for us to say to Jamaica, to those who are most vulnerable and at-risk, that those that some label as not deserving can become the best among us. They can become the next generation of champions to move our country forward,” he noted. He expressed the hope that the publicity around the programme will inspire confidence in those struggling to maintain a positive path in society.“To achieve greatness [in the country]…, we have to treat with crime and violence. We have to create an environment where people feel confident, where people can trust again, where people believe in themselves, in the process and in the system,” Senator Charles Jr. argued. He pointed out that the Ministry is working to ensure that rehabilitation and redemption are not just theoretical, but that efforts produce positive and tangible results “to show to our country that we are making a sustainable and real difference”.Senator Charles Jr. hailed the beneficiaries, who have worked to transform their attitudes and circumstances, and urged them to be ambassadors for the Ministry and the CSJP in their communities.“We expect you to walk and to talk and to conduct yourself in such a way that others looking on know that you have benefited from the CSJP programme and know that they too can change,” he added. The young people involved in the reintegration initiative also benefited from the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) Internship Programme, aimed at improving the employability and social skills of participants as well as the relationship between young men and the security forces. They are part of a wider pool of 2,319 youth from across 50 volatile communities across eight parishes, who have benefited from the case management services under CSJP III since January 2016.CSJP case managers and other service providers have reported significant improvement in the participants’ general outlook on life, productivity, sense of purpose and their problem-solving skills. The CSJP is funded by the Government of Jamaica; Inter-American Development Bank (IDB); Britain’s Department for International Development; and Global Affairs Canada formerly Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) of Canada.
“Trelawny continues to be a leader in local government, and I want to say a special thank you to the management and staff for the hard work and dedication they have shown in ensuring that our finely tuned machine continues to operate at peak efficiency,” he said. Mayor of Falmouth, Colin Gager, says the Trelawny Municipal Corporation must be commended for Trelawny being the only parish other than Kingston and St. Andrew to reach and surpass the property tax target for the 2017/2018 financial year. “What is even more exciting and commendable is that the Jackson Town Tax Office by which Clarks Town is served, collected 19 per cent more than its targeted amount,” he noted. Story Highlights Mayor of Falmouth, Colin Gager, says the Trelawny Municipal Corporation must be commended for Trelawny being the only parish other than Kingston and St. Andrew to reach and surpass the property tax target for the 2017/2018 financial year. The Mayor, who was speaking at the official opening of the Clark’s Town Transportation Centre in Trelawny on April 6, said the municipality collected some $340.7 million, which was $19.3 million more than the target of $321.4 million.“What is even more exciting and commendable is that the Jackson Town Tax Office by which Clarks Town is served, collected 19 per cent more than its targeted amount,” he noted.“Trelawny continues to be a leader in local government, and I want to say a special thank you to the management and staff for the hard work and dedication they have shown in ensuring that our finely tuned machine continues to operate at peak efficiency,” he said.Turning to developments in Falmouth, Mayor Gager said the parish capital “is poised to reclaim her economic and social importance and is positioned to become the tourism mecca of the region”.He noted that the town of Falmouth and the parish of Trelawny have always played a pivotal role in nation-building and are major catalysts for the stimulation of growth for sustainable development.“The economic impact and contribution of this parish is rightly recorded in history as it was the royal parish when sugar was ‘King’ and the wealthiest town and parish during that period.Falmouth boasted in excess of 12 sugar factories and was the leading exporter of sugar, rum and molasses,” he pointed out.The Mayor said it should also be noted that Falmouth is emerging as a major force in tourism, pointing to the cruise-ship pier as “the biggest of its kind in the Caribbean and one of “the leading cruise-shipping ports in the world”.“It is the home of the world’s largest cruise-shipping vessels and has been repeatedly voted as the favourite destination port by passengers and crew members,” he said further. He pointed out that the parish has also produced stalwart leaders, who have not only contributed nationally but are making an impact internationally.“These are individuals such as Rex Nettleford, William Knibb, Hugh Lawson Shearer, Usain Bolt, Ky-Mani Marley, Anita Belnavis and the former world’s oldest living person, Violet Mosse-Brown,” he said.
zoom The increasing number of large marine losses can potentially put severe financial strain and overwhelm insurance companies, Dieter Berg, President of the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI), said during the closing of this year’s IUMI 2016 marine insurance conference in Genova, Italy.Berg cited the recent losses connected with the Chilean earthquake in 2010, the Japanese earthquake and tsunami in 2011 (USD 3.8 billion loss), Thai floods in 2011 (USD 2.5 billion loss), Hurricane Sandy in 2012 (USD 3 billion loss) and the Tianjin explosion in 2015 (USD 3-4 billion loss expected). These marine losses were often coupled with associated major property losses, Berg said.“Our industry is concerned that natural catastrophes, due to climate change, are occurring more often and with greater severity,” Berg said.”Coupled with this, globalisation and the unrelenting growth of global trade is driving an increase in the value of goods being transported by sea and an increase in the quantity of goods being stored on ultra-large container ships, or in port terminals. These have the potential to create extremely large losses. Recent marine losses have been very expensive for insurers and often an accumulation of multiple business lines occur which can include cargo losses, container losses, warehouse damage, destruction of automobiles, damage to pleasure craft and even fine art losses. At Tianjin, for example, around 68,000 cars were affected, i.e. a total loss or damaged, by a single explosion.”Berg explained that when large marine losses were combined with property and other losses, there was a real concern that this might overwhelm insurance companies. He called on the industry to understand, clearly, their aggregate positions and to manage their exposures by carefully modelling their risk positions.

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has hit back at Liverpool fans who mocked his criticism of new signing Xherdan Shaqiri.Sky Sports pundit, Neville, had previously labelled Shaqiri, who was part of the Stoke side that were relegated from the Premier League last season, as ‘unprofessional.’Shaqiri, making his first appearance in a Liverpool shirt, found the net with a superb bicycle kick as Jurgen Klopp’s side thrashed United 4-1 in a friendly in the United States. Many Liverpool fans took to Twitter to remind Neville of his comments, but the former United captain stuck to his initial viewpoint and wrote: ‘I hope you lot are going to message me every time you see him stood on the halfway line whilst your team are being attacked! Oh and he needs Ronaldinho playing with him’.I hope you lot are going to message me every time you see him stood on the halfway line whilst your team are being attacked ! IndiGoIndia’s low-cost carrier, IndiGo is considering investing in Jet Airways if it fails to acquire a stake in Air India. With this move, the carrier aims to expand its international footprint, Mint reported.InterGlobe Aviation– the parent company of IndiGo– run by aviation entrepreneurs Rahul Bhatia and Rakesh Gangwal, was the first to show interest in Air India on the same day the government decided to sell a stake.IndiGo has a great chance to crack the Air India deal with new foreign direct investment (FDI) policy on aviation in sector in place. The new FDI policy says that rule allowing foreign airlines to invest up to 49 percent in an Indian airline does not apply to Air India, which rules out all the possibilities of a foreign airline buying into India’s national carrier, the business daily reported.A senior official, who was briefed on IndiGo’s strategy, told Mint that the airline will take the organic route if it can’t acquire a stake. But the process would be slower, he added.Currently, the foreign airlines fly about 65 percent of international passengers in and out of India. The rest is mostly carried by the state-owned Air India and Jet Airways.Given the circumstances, IndiGo would go all out to get Air India’s international business as the state-owned carrier has international flying rights and slots, the official said.Another alternative could be Jet Airways. IndiGo “sees an opportunity there” in a year, he said. Earlier in 2013, Jet sold 24 percent stake to Etihad. In case, neither of the options work out, IndiGo would like to start international operation on its own by buying bigger planes from Airbus or Boeing. But that will be a “very slow process” and it will be the last resort for the airline, he said. With a fleet of 139 planes, IndiGo is currently the largest domestic airline in India. To build managerial bandwidth IndiGo has roped in several experts from the US and other markets in departments such as finance, commercial, airports and flight operations.
Trustee Sergio Lira, Houston Federation of Teachers President Zeph Capo and several educators joined the press conference.Capo emphasized that if Houston schools improved enough to avoid a state-mandated takeover, it’s because of teachers.“And this is not the way to welcome them back to a new year when we need them focused the most on doing the best for our kids with the least,” Capo said.Santos said that she believes the $2 billion budget, which the board approved at the end of July, can cover the $6 million needed for the raises, if district administrators account for the departure of veteran, higher paid teachers.Lucia Moreno, who teaches at Rucker Elementary, said that she has to use her own money to buy equipment like cameras that her students need and her school can’t afford. Now she wonders how she’ll be able to pay for students’ supplies without an expected pay bump of about $1,000.“So where does that money come? They wind up losing. Who loses? Our kids in the East End,” Moreno said. The Houston school board is expected to vote on the compensation plan at its meeting next week. Laura IsenseeTrustee Elizabeth Santos told reporters that she believes the HISD budget can cover $6 million in scheduled raises for teachers.Dozens of educators spoke out against the proposed pay freeze at the Houston district headquarters Thursday afternoon, saying it’s not the way to “welcome” teachers back to school.Houston school board member and teacher Elizabeth Santos said that her fellow educators were shocked to find out that the administration at the Houston Independent School District wants to freeze their salaries for this school year — and not give anyone scheduled raises.“It’s simply not right to tell teachers that their pay is being cut days before they return to their classrooms for the new school year,” Santos said. “Beyond that, it’s not smart. As a district, we must ensure we don’t lose our most valuable asset for educating our children — experienced classroom teachers.” Listen To embed this piece of audio in your site, please use this code: X 00:00 /00:53 Share
