Press Association Manchester United have confirmed that manager Sir Alex Ferguson is to retire at the end of the season. The statement continued: “Our training facilities are amongst the finest in global sport and our home Old Trafford is rightfully regarded as one of the leading venues in the world. “Going forward, I am delighted to take on the roles of both Director and Ambassador for the club. With these activities, along with my many other interests, I am looking forward to the future. “I must pay tribute to my family, their love and support has been essential. My wife Cathy has been the key figure throughout my career, providing a bedrock of both stability and encouragement. Words are not enough to express what this has meant to me. “As for my players and staff, past and present, I would like to thank them all for a staggering level of professional conduct and dedication that has helped to deliver so many memorable triumphs. Without their contribution the history of this great club would not be as rich. “In my early years, the backing of the board, and Sir Bobby Charlton in particular, gave me the confidence and time to build a football club, rather than just a football team. “Over the past decade, the Glazer family have provided me with the platform to manage Manchester United to the best of my ability and I have been extremely fortunate to have worked with a talented and trustworthy Chief Executive in David Gill. I am truly grateful to all of them. “To the fans, thank you. The support you have provided over the years has been truly humbling. It has been an honour and an enormous privilege to have had the opportunity to lead your club and I have treasured my time as manager of Manchester United.” They released a statement, in which Ferguson said: “The decision to retire is one that I have thought a great deal about and one that I have not taken lightly. It is the right time. “It was important to me to leave an organisation in the strongest possible shape and I believe I have done so. The quality of this league winning squad, and the balance of ages within it, bodes well for continued success at the highest level whilst the structure of the youth set-up will ensure that the long-term future of the club remains a bright one.”
The U.S. leads the world in the number of coronavirus deaths On CNN’s State of the Union Dr. Anthony Fauci said the country is turning a corner in terms of hospitalizations and ventilator intubations.Fauci, a key member of the White House task force on COVID-19, added they don’t want to be premature in easing up on social distancing. He said it depends on where you live in the county and how the outbreak is developing there, but some cities may be able to get back to work by as early as next month. Wheeldon, 20, came up through the ranks of Nelson Minor Hockey before latching on with the Kootenay Ice of the BC Hockey Major Midget League in 2009.The next season he earned a spot with hometown Nelson Leafs of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League where he had 11 points in 44 games.Wheeldon’s high-octane play earned him a spot in the BC Hockey League with Trail Smoke Eaters from 2011-14.In 140 games with the Smokies, Wheeldon accumulated 39 points.However, Wheeldon left Trail during the offseason, playing his final season in the AJHL with Camrose.Wheeldon, 20, completed a successful season in the Alberta Junior Hockey League with Camrose where the 5’11”, 200-pound forward scored 10 goals while adding 14 assists in 59 games with the AJHL South regular season champions.”The Kodiaks organization would like to congradulate Adam and his family on this achievement in his hockey career and we look forward to many more years of hockey and education,” Rybalka said in closing.Wheeldon joins a host of graduating players from the AJHL choosing to remain in Alberta to find offers on the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference team. Nelson Minor Hockey grad Adam Wheeldon has accepted an offer to attend Concordia University in Edmonton.Concordia plays in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference against college and university teams from throughout Alberta.“Adam will have an impact from day one with the team,” said Kodiaks coach and GM Boris Rybalka on the team website.“His style of play will make him a fan favourite and opposition players will need to keep their heads up when he is on the ice.”“Coach Glegloff is excited about having Adam attend Concordia as he sees his leadership and compete level paying dividends to the program,” Rybalka adds.
Nicolas de Tavernost, president of French commercial broadcaster M6, has said he will remain vigilant on Canal Plus’s implementation of its acquisition of free-to-air channels Direct 8 and Direct Star following the French competition authority’s green light for the deal.Speaking to analysts, De Tavernost said that M6 would analyse the competition authority’s decision in detail when it was published and had not ruled anything out at this stage. He said the conditions imposed by the regulator appeared to be “relatively light”.M6 was hit by a weak advertising market in the second quarter, with the main channel’s ad revenues declining by 6.6%.
Asia Pacific will overtake North America as the leading region for advertising-supported video-on-demand (AVOD) content by 2021, according to new research.The Digital TV Research report claims that Asia Pacific and North America will account for 77% of global ad spend attributed to over-the-top TV and movies by 2022, with Western Europe accounting for another 16%.While the US is expected to remain the largest AVOD country, by 2022 China will have “considerably closed the gap”, according to the research.In 2022 the top five AVOD countries by expenditure are expected to be the US at US$9.96 billion, China at US$7.27 billion, the UK at US$1.69 billion, Japan at US$1.52 billion and India at US$883 million.Globally, across 138 countries, AVOD expenditure is expected to double between 2017 and 2022 to reach some US$29 billion, with the market bolstered in recent years by the growth in mobile advertising.
